In this video, Jeremy Foley and his co-driver Yuri lost control of the Evolution Dynamics Evo at the 2012 Pikes Peak Hill Climb. The car came tumbling down violently, tossing parts as it rolled over and over to what looks like a certain end for the two men inside. However, both the Jeremy and Yuri survived the crash with Jeremy walking away unscathed and Yuri experiencing only a headache and dislocated shoulder.
Safety equipment saved their lives. You can see in the video that the only structure left after the wreck was that of the roll cage. This is a very important lesson for all enthusiasts that in the past may have felt that safety equipment can wait. If you have been inspired to race, be sure to head over to your local speed shop and ask about having your car properly set up with safety equipment designed for your application. This includes a roll cage, a helmet and race specific apparel, a safety harness, and even the seat you sit in. Each of these elements plays an important role when it comes to safety.
